The Foundations of True Closeness

Human life largely relies on the bonds we build with those around us and the relationship we cultivate with our own inner world. True, healthy depth in a relationship with another person does not happen by chance or through instant infatuation. Rather, it is an architecture built slowly, brick by brick, resting on a foundation of mutual respect, a genuine curiosity about one another, and a readiness for an authentic encounter. It requires mindfulness, honest conversation, and the acceptance of both our strengths and the more challenging aspects of our psyche.

The Freedom to Be Yourself

A healthy, deep relationship primarily means freedom from the fear of rejection and the opportunity to be entirely yourself in someone else’s presence. In such a bond, there is no room for hiding your vulnerabilities or pretending to be someone you are not. It involves accepting that each of us carries a unique personal history, past wounds, and distinct needs. Instead of avoiding difficult topics, healthy closeness thrives on mature dialogue, where conflicts do not destroy the connection, but instead offer a chance to better understand the other person’s perspective. This requires mindfulness, patience, and the courage to let go of the need to control a partner or loved one.

When Building Connections Becomes a Challenge

In the process of professional psychological support, we often explore why building deep bonds can sometimes feel so difficult. Past experiences can lead us to build defensive walls, confusing true independence with emotional isolation. Therapy is not about imposing ready-made solutions, but rather about discovering together what stands in the way of entering into a relationship fully and securely. Through working on our own wellbeing and personal growth, we cultivate the capacity for compassion—both toward ourselves and toward others.

An Anchor in Crisis and a Return to Balance

Caring for mental health and working daily on one’s wellbeing form the essential foundation for a fulfilling social and romantic life. When we encounter relationship crises, emotional burnout, or communication difficulties, these are clear signals that a moment of pause is needed. When the daily rush causes us to lose our inner emotional balance and drift apart, a safe, professional therapeutic space becomes a steady anchor, helping us rediscover our life’s compass and reopen to another human person. In such moments, professional psychological counselling offers a safe environment to process tension, understand our emotional states, and regain lost equilibrium. Understanding our own emotions teaches us how to love others wisely and without demands.

An Invitation to the Journey

Personal growth and the pursuit of a deeper understanding of oneself bring tangible benefits to every sphere of life. Openness to dialogue allows us to build stronger, more conscious connections with others. I warmly invite you to make use of professional support at the Someone To Talk To practice in Scunthorpe or through online sessions, so we can look together at what requires healing and a fresh perspective, as well as how to build deep, healthy, and nourishing relationships.

Have you ever noticed your entire body tense up in resistance to what is happening right now? When a plan takes an unexpected turn, a relationship becomes challenging, or a persistent thought arises: “This shouldn’t be happening”?

In our daily challenges, it is rarely the event itself that causes the deepest anxiety or strain. Most of our energy is drained by internal conflict, the moment our mind decides to argue with reality. From the perspective of mental health prevention and emotional regulation, this ongoing argument with ‘what is’ serves as a primary source of chronic stress.

Fortunately, we can learn a different path… one of letting go, acceptance, and conscious work with our beliefs.

Arguing with Reality: The Wisdom of Byron Katie

Byron Katie, creator of The Work, famously observed: “When I argue with reality, I lose. But only 100% of the time.”

How often throughout the day does the mind repeat scripts like:

“They should understand me,”

“This shouldn’t have happened,” or

“I shouldn’t feel this way”?

When we believe these thoughts without question, our nervous system interprets them as an active threat. Chest tightness, shallow breathing, and rising anxiety naturally follow.

Working with beliefs begins with a gentle pause. When a challenging thought arises, rather than following it down the rabbit hole, ask yourself: “Can I be absolutely certain that this thought is true?” Simply questioning our own narratives creates a safe space for self-inquiry and brings immediate relief from emotional tension.

Flowing with Experience: Michael Singer and the Art of Surrender

While Byron Katie invites us to examine our thoughts, Michael Singer, author of The Surrender Experiment, focuses on what happens within the body. Singer reminds us that difficult emotions are like waves. When we attempt to block, suppress, or over-analyse them, we trap that energy within our system.

True acceptance and letting go do not mean passive resignation. It is a conscious choice to stop fighting our own internal experience. When anxiety or sorrow appears, instead of tightening your muscles, try taking a slow exhale and softening your chest. Allow the emotion to simply pass through your body without judgment.

This is precisely where emotional resilience is built. We learn that we are more than our transient thoughts and feelings… we are the calm, safe awareness in which these experiences can arise and naturally dissolve.

An Invitation to a Supportive Space

Emotional balance and self-discovery are gentle, ongoing journeys. If you feel your mind growing weary from constantly battling daily life, you do not have to navigate it alone.

Within STTT we are dedicated to helping you find daily renewal, self-awareness, and relaxation. We invite you to explore our shared resources:

🟢 Free stress management resources – practical tools for nervous system regulation that you can use anytime.

🟢 Webinars and e-books on emotional regulation – gentle guides designed to help you transform tension into inner clarity.

🟢 Personal growth workshops and well-being circles – safe, nurturing spaces where we explore subconscious beliefs, practice letting go, and support one another through life’s everyday challenges.

Letting go is not an act of weakness. It is one of the most profound acts of care you can offer to your mental well-being.

Have you ever tried to force a major life shift through sheer willpower? You set a resolution, grit your teeth, push through the resistance… and after weeks of exhausting effort, you find yourself back at square one.

This isn’t a personal failure or a lack of discipline. It is simply the wrong tool for the job. Willpower belongs to the conscious mind, a mere 5% of your mental capacity. True, lasting transformation doesn’t demand struggle; it requires imagination and subconscious alignment.

The Law of Assumption: Neville Goddard & Creative Imagination

Neville Goddard, a pioneering figure in modern metaphysics, taught that human imagination is the ultimate creative instrument. He formulated the Law of Assumption.

Neville’s principle was clear: you do not attract what you want; you attract who you are. When you attempt to force outcomes via willpower, your subconscious broadcasts a frequency of lack: “I don’t have this yet, so I must fight for it.”

Neville offered a powerful shift: step into your imagination and embody the state of the person who has already fulfilled that desire. Feel it so vividly that it becomes your present emotional reality. Once this new assumption takes root within, the outer world naturally aligns with your inner foundation.

Emotional Alignment: Esther Hicks

This perspective is beautifully completed by the teachings of Esther Hicks, who reminds us that all creation is inherently vibrational.

If your goal is peace, confidence, or abundance, but your daily actions are driven by anxiety and pressure, you remain out of frequency with your goal. Your primary focus is simply to tune into the emotion of fulfilment now, prior to any physical manifestation.

Hypnotic Trance: The Fertile Soil for Subconscious Rewiring

How do we combine Goddard’s imagination with Hicks’s vibrational alignment in practice? The bridge is deep hypnotic trance.

As the physical body softens and the analytical guard quiets down, internal resistance evaporates. Within this quiet space:

⭐ New Assumptions Take Root: The imagination becomes fluid, allowing new feelings and self-perceptions to integrate effortlessly into the subconscious.

⭐ Effort Gives Way to Alignment: The friction of willpower is replaced by a state of relaxed permission.

⭐ Identity Shifts From Within: You stop trying to change; you simply begin embodying your new reality on a nervous-system level.

Shift From Struggle to Creation

Profound transformation does not require wrestling with external circumstances. It simply requires a safe, guided space to lower your guard and allow your subconscious mind to accept new, empowering truths.

When you gently reprogramme your internal assumptions in a state of deep relaxation, your outer reality naturally transforms to match.

Have you ever noticed how your body immediately reacts to stress? Your shoulders tense, your stomach knots, and your breathing becomes shallow. This is no coincidence. Our mind and body are not separate entities; they form a single, deeply interconnected system where every thought triggers a genuine biological response.

For decades, we were taught that we were passive victims of our genetic code. However, Dr Bruce Lipton, a renowned cell biologist and pioneer in epigenetics, demonstrated a groundbreaking truth: genes do not control our biology – our environment and our perception of that environment do.

The Cellular Environment and the Mind

Dr Lipton’s research on stem cells revealed that the exact same cell would develop differently depending on its surrounding environment. In the human body, that “environment” is the bloodstream, whose chemical composition shifts constantly based on our thoughts and emotions.

When you experience peace, love, and safety, your brain releases dopamine, oxytocin, and growth hormones, encouraging your cells to regenerate and thrive. Conversely, when you live in chronic stress or anxiety, your system is flooded with cortisol and adrenaline. The body enters a “fight or flight” mode, pausing cellular renewal and dampening the immune system.

Early Childhood Programming and the Subconscious

Perhaps the most profound aspect of Lipton’s work concerns where our automatic reactions originate. He demonstrated that until the age of seven, a child’s brain operates predominantly in Theta brainwaves, a state similar to deep meditation or hypnotic trance. During these early years, we absorb the beliefs, fears, and emotional responses of those around us without analytical filter.

As adults, up to 95% of our daily lives is driven by these subconscious programmes. If an early programme dictated that “life is a struggle,” “the world is unsafe,” or “I am not good enough,” the physical body carries that silent biological tension for years, often manifesting as exhaustion or physical discomfort.

Restoring Balance: Rewiring in Trance

The empowering truth is that because these programmes were installed in a Theta state, they can be gently updated in that very same state.

Working with the subconscious (through deep relaxation and hypnotherapy) allows us to safely bypass the critical, analytical mind and reach the root of old conditioning.

Within a guided trance state, we can:

🔹 Release stored emotional stress from the nervous system,

🔹 Replace limiting childhood scripts with supportive, empowering beliefs,

🔹 Signal safety to our biology, allowing the body to return to its natural state of harmony.

Your body possesses a remarkable capacity for renewal. When you transform your subconscious beliefs, you do not simply shift your perspective – you offer every cell in your body the opportunity to thrive.

“I can handle it on my own.”

“Therapy is for weak people.”

“Others have much bigger problems than I do.”

If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking this way, you’re certainly not alone. These are some of the most common beliefs I hear from people who are considering professional support but hesitate to take the first step.

The reality, however, is quite different.

Seeking counselling is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of self-awareness and the willingness to invest in your emotional wellbeing. Just as we seek medical advice when our body needs attention, talking to a qualified counsellor can help us better understand our emotions, relationships, life challenges and patterns that may be holding us back.

You don’t have to be experiencing a crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people choose counselling because they want to manage stress more effectively, improve their confidence, strengthen relationships or simply achieve a healthier emotional balance. Therapy is not only about overcoming difficulties; it is also about personal development and creating a more fulfilling life.

In my practice, I offer counselling and, where appropriate, hypnotherapy. Counselling provides a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement. Hypnotherapy can complement this process by working with the subconscious mind to support positive change, reduce emotional tension and strengthen healthier habits. Every therapeutic journey is tailored to your individual needs, goals and circumstances.

If you still believe, “Therapy isn’t for me,” perhaps ask yourself one question: Is this truly your own belief, or is it something you’ve learned from others?

You don’t have to wait until life feels overwhelming before asking for support. Sometimes, one conversation is enough to begin seeing yourself and your situation from a different perspective. Taking that first step is not about weakness; it is about choosing your wellbeing and investing in your future.

If you are looking for professional counselling UK or hypnotherapy UK, I offer a safe, confidential and compassionate space where you can explore life’s challenges at your own pace. Together, we can work towards greater emotional balance, resilience and personal development.

We often carry an invisible backpack filled with beliefs that, instead of helping us, grow heavier with every step. One of the most exhausting is that quiet, persistent thought: ‘I should be able to handle this on my own. If I ask for help, it means I’ve failed.’

If those words sound familiar, I want to tell you one important thing first: I understand. It is completely natural to want to be strong and self-sufficient. However, hiding your struggles from the world can be incredibly draining.

Where Does This Inner Resistance Come From?

The feeling that asking for support is a sign of weakness rarely appears out of nowhere. It is often a voice from the past – beliefs brought from a home where absolute independence was prized above all, or the result of an environment that demanded immediate adulthood.

Shame, which shows up at the mere thought of opening up to someone, acts as a barrier. We fear judgment, rejection, or burdening others with our problems. As a result, we lock ourselves within the four walls of our own minds, believing that fighting alone is the only honourable way out.

Asking for Help Isn’t Weakness – It’s Courage

Let’s look at this from a completely different perspective. When a loved one comes to you with a problem, do you think they are weak? Probably not. You see a human being going through a tough time, and you appreciate that they trust you enough to share it.

Reaching out for support requires immense bravery. It is the moment you stand in truth with yourself and say: ‘My resources are depleted right now, and that is okay.’ Handling absolutely everything alone isn’t a measure of success – it is often a direct path to emotional burnout.

Your Safe Space – Counselling and Hypnotherapy in UK

Sometimes it is hardest to open up to those closest to us because we worry about their reaction. This is precisely why professional counselling, psychotherapy, and hypnotherapy can be so liberating. It is a space completely free of judgment, demands, or expectations that you ‘must be fine.’

At Someone to talk to in the UK, I create a safe environment where you can finally put that heavy backpack down. Without rush and without shame. If you feel it’s time to allow yourself some relief, remember you don’t have to walk this path alone. A supportive conversation focused on your personal development is the first step to regaining inner peace. I am here to listen.

Sometimes a person knows what they want… yet they still fall back into the same patterns.

“I know I’m overreacting.”

“I know this relationship isn’t serving me.”

“I know I want to change something.”

And yet, something holds them back.

And this is where many people become interested in hypnotherapy. Not as a “magic want.” Not as a quick fix. But as calm, mindful work with what’s happening deeper – in the subconscious, emotions, beliefs, and automatic reactions.

What exactly is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a method of working with a state of deep concentration and relaxation. This is a natural state we also experience every day, sometimes while driving, reading a book, or having a moment of reflection.

In a hypnotherapy room, it’s not about losing control. You don’t “sleep.” Nothing happens against your will. It’s more of a moment where the mind can slow down a bit, and you can examine what usually operates automatically.

In my experience, many people come to their first session with a bit of tension and the question: “What if I don’t let myself be hypnotized?”

And very often after the session, I hear: “It was calmer and more natural than I thought.”

What does hypnotherapy help with?

Every person is different, so hypnotherapy doesn’t look the same for everyone. We don’t work “with a set formula.”

However, most often, people come in with issues such as:

 anxiety and internal tension,

 chronic stress,

 relationship difficulties,

 feeling stuck,

 lack of self-confidence,

 overanalysing,

 difficult emotions,

 habits and automatic reactions,

 difficulty letting go of control,

 feeling overwhelmed by everyday life.

Sometimes the problem is immediately apparent. And sometimes a person just says, “I don’t know what’s going on, but I feel like something inside me needs to change.”

And that’s also a sufficient beginning.

Why is it worth combining counselling and hypnotherapy?

In my work, I particularly value the combination of psychological understanding of a person with working with the subconscious. Because awareness alone is often not enough. We can understand our patterns… and yet remain stuck in the same place emotionally.

That’s why during my work; the following are important to me:

 conversation,

 a sense of security,

 understanding the mechanisms,

 emotional regulation,

 and only then deeper work with the subconscious.

No pressure. No “fixing the person.” More like a calm discovery of what has been working in the background until now.

Does online hypnotherapy work?

Yes, many people use online hypnotherapy today and feel even more comfortable during such sessions than in person.

Your own armchair. A familiar blanket. Tea nearby. A familiar space.

This often makes a huge difference for the nervous system.

Of course, the most important thing is proper preparation, a calm space, and a relationship based on trust. Because effective work doesn’t start with “technique.” It starts with a sense of security.

Hypnotherapy isn’t magic – it’s a process.

You can find many promises of quick change online. I believe more in process than in “instant transformation.” Sometimes a single session brings important insight. Sometimes it takes time.

Hypnotherapy doesn’t eliminate all the difficulties in life. But it can help you better understand yourself, notice your patterns, and create space for change.

And sometimes that’s exactly what we need most: not fighting with yourself but calmly listening to yourself. If you feel something inside you is calling for change… maybe you don’t have all the answers yet. Sometimes curiosity is enough. A first conversation. A moment of pause.

If you want to see if online hypnotherapy will be the right support for you, you can contact me.

I work in a calm, mindful manner, tailored to the individual, not to a pre-defined pattern. Because behind every symptom, tension, or habit lies a story. And every story deserves to be heard.

Sometimes it is not ordinary tiredness. Not the kind that disappears after coffee or an early night. Sometimes it feels as though even the smallest choices become heavy: What should I cook? Should I reply now or later? Which option is best? Am I making the right decision?

And although life may appear perfectly normal from the outside, internally there is a sense of overload. As if the mind has simply had enough of choosing.

Psychology calls this decision fatigue.

Research suggests that every decision, even small and seemingly insignificant ones, uses part of our mental energy. Over time, the brain begins looking for the easiest route: avoiding decisions, choosing the safest default option, or functioning on autopilot.

One of the most well-known studies examined judges making parole decisions. Researchers noticed that earlier in the day judges were significantly more likely to grant parole, while later decisions increasingly shifted towards refusal. After meal breaks, decision patterns reset again.

There is something deeply human in that.

Our minds were never designed to operate endlessly without pause.

Similar conclusions appeared in Roy Baumeister’s research on ego depletion, which explored how self-control and decision-making draw from limited cognitive resources. The more mental energy we spend regulating ourselves and making choices, the harder it becomes to stay focused and intentional later on.

Perhaps that is why even small evening decisions can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Interestingly, exhaustion does not only come from difficult choices. Research by Sheena Iyengar showed that too many options can become paralysing in themselves. When people were offered 24 varieties of jam, they were less likely to buy anything at all compared to those offered only six choices.

Sometimes the difficulty is not a lack of possibilities, but an excess of them.

And perhaps this helps explain why so many people today carry a quiet psychological exhaustion. Not only from work. But from constant choosing.

What to watch.

How to respond.

Who to become.

What to improve.

How to “do life properly”.

Maybe today you do not need another perfect decision. Maybe you need simplicity. Stillness. A little more space for your nervous system to breathe.

Because human beings were not created to live in a permanent state of choice.

Sometimes caring for yourself begins with allowing one less decision to sit on your shoulders.

Living in the UK offers many opportunities, but it can also bring challenges that are not always immediately visible. Adapting to a new environment, language, system, or being away from family can affect emotional balance and overall wellbeing. Over time, stress may build up, and daily functioning can feel more demanding.

This is not always a crisis. Often, it is a subtle signal that something within us needs attention.

🌿 Stress and emotional strain in daily life

Stress can take many forms. It may appear as:

– physical tension

– difficulty resting

– racing thoughts

– feeling overwhelmed

– low energy

At times, it may be accompanied by anxiety or a general sense of unease. In other cases, it may show up as feeling disconnected or out of balance. From a mental health perspective, these are signals worth noticing.

🌿 When to consider therapy

Therapy is not only for extreme situations.

It can be supportive when:

– you experience ongoing stress or tension

– anxiety is present

– you find it difficult to switch off

– you want to understand yourself better

– you are going through a life transition

– you are looking for a space to talk and reflect

Therapy offers a structured and supportive environment where experiences can be explored without judgement or pressure.

🌿 Therapy in your native language

For many people, speaking in their native language is essential when it comes to emotional work. Language is closely connected to how we experience and express feelings. Being able to communicate in Polish may support a deeper and more authentic process.

Therapy in your native language can:

– support clearer expression

– create a sense of safety

– strengthen the therapeutic relationship

This can be particularly valuable when working with emotions, beliefs, and personal experiences.

🌿 Areas of support

Therapeutic support may include:

– stress and emotional overload

– anxiety

– emotional difficulties

– low self-esteem

– life transitions and adaptation

– relationships and boundaries

– working with beliefs and behavioural patterns

The aim is not to “fix” problems quickly, but to support a process that encourages awareness, emotional balance, and personal development.

🌿 Therapy as a process

Therapy is not an instant solution. It is a process that develops over time, requiring openness and engagement. However, it can become a meaningful foundation for improving wellbeing and emotional stability.

Over time, it may support:

– a better understanding of personal responses

– increased emotional flexibility

– more conscious decision-making

🌿 An invitation

If you feel that you may benefit from support, reaching out can be a valuable first step. Therapeutic support in Polish in the UK offers a space to explore, reflect, and reconnect with your own experience.

Without pressure.

At your own pace.

With attention to what matters to you.

April, recognised as Stress Awareness Month, often highlights different ways of coping with pressure. Many of these approaches focus on action, change, or control. However, in practice, the experience of stress is often more complex.

It is not always something that can be quickly “resolved”.

Stress is a response of the nervous system. It can arise in situations of overload, prolonged tension, or emotional pressure. Over time, it may affect concentration, sleep, relationships, and overall mental wellbeing.

From a therapeutic perspective, the focus is not only on reducing external demands, but also on supporting internal regulation.

This involves gradually developing the ability to:

– recognise signs of tension

– respond to the needs of the body

– build a more supportive relationship with oneself.

One accessible step within this process is the introduction of micro-pauses. These are brief moments throughout the day that allow the nervous system to settle, even partially. This may include conscious breathing, pausing between tasks, reducing stimulation, or bringing attention back to the body. Although small, these practices can contribute to emotional balance over time.

Within therapy, including hypnotherapy, this process can be explored more deeply. In a guided state of relaxation, the body and mind can access a level of regulation that may not be easily available during daily activity.

This is not about effort or control.

It is about creating the conditions in which change can occur.

Therapy can provide a structured and supportive space to:

– explore emotional difficulties

– understand underlying patterns

– work with beliefs and automatic responses

– support mental health and emotional resilience.

An important part of this work is also reconsidering the role of rest. In many cases, rest is viewed as something that must be earned. From a mental health perspective, however, it is a fundamental need. Without sufficient recovery, the nervous system may remain in a state of activation, making balance more difficult to maintain.

Letting go does not mean withdrawing or avoiding responsibility.

It may instead involve a shift in how we relate to ourselves.

From constant pressure towards greater awareness.

From urgency towards more considered responses.

If you are experiencing ongoing stress or emotional challenges, seeking therapeutic support may be a valuable step. Therapy is not an immediate solution. It is a process. However, it can become a meaningful foundation for improving wellbeing, restoring emotional balance, and developing a more sustainable way of living.
