Energy for life in your hands: Digital detox.

Limiting screen time to improve quality of life and interpersonal relationships.

This month is all about improving overall happiness and increasing your energy for life. In this article, I will share how limiting your screen time can lead to a more fulfilling life by improving your relationships with people and your mental wellbeing.

Nowadays, time moves fast as we sit behind our screens, letting it pass us by. It leads to a loneliness epidemic, in which we yearn for face-to-face contact with people. We have in turn forgotten the beauty of the world as we are bombarded by constant negativity and false marketing from various media and news outlets, resulting in unnecessary stress and strain on our mental health.

The average screen time is around six hours – within four years, that’s a whole year spent on your phone.

A digital detox, which we suggest, is when you take a break from the screens, either just for a weekend, or more extremely, a few weeks. It can be scary taking onboard a detox such as this, and at first you may feel disconnected from the outside world and bored.

However, digital detoxes have proven effective in helping with focus, sleep and stress. The fifteen-second entertainment you find on social media, offer a temporary burst of dopamine, which makes you happy. That also can lead to an addiction, where you crave constant dopamine and can no longer find it in ordinary life.

Our phones have made comfort too accessible, so break the pattern. Put the screens away. By reducing your screen time, you are actively handing yourself more time; for your loved ones, for your hobbies and for the things you feel you never have time for.

When you overcome this addiction, you will see how much fuller your life is by filling your minutes with the things that truly matter and appreciating the little things. You will watch your vitality and happines grow.
